Work portfolio
As part of my Creative Industries module, I was asked to showcase some of the skills I had picked up over the course of my three years at the University of Glamorgan by building up a number of projects. The module provided me with an opportunity to work in the professional industry as a journalist in order to get a better understanding of how various different people work, and to also participate in various tasks hands on.
The project was spilt into six parts, which I have described in more detail below:
Project 1: University of Glamorgan Sport Park - A short package put together to 'advertise' Glamorgan Sport Park.
Project 2: The Phoenix newspaper - Independent student newspaper, where I took up the role of Sports Editor.
Project 3: Show Racism the Red Card Wales - A five minute video package which showcases the types of events run by SRtRC.
Project 4: University of Glamorgan match reports - A selection of my match reports compiled for the university's sport homepage.
Project 5: Media CV - Used to highlight my achievements and experience, which will of course build up over time.
Project 6: Work Experience - I took part in 15 days of work experience, which would allow me to work in the professional industry.
Alongside this, I have also included my dissertation, television journalism work and my own magazine, all of which I have referred to in more detail under various sections in this portfolio. Click on the links directly above to view the projects individually, or alternatively, hover over the Creative Industries tab at the top of this page to navigate through my portfolio of work in full.
The freelance journalism work I am currently undertaking can be found under the Freelance Journalism Portfolio tab.
Note: The above work contributed towards me receiving a First in my Creative Industries module, with lecturer Craig Hooper commenting: “Your work on The Phoenix is strong and you have excelled at your role as sports editor, which was one of the strongest areas of the newspaper.Your Sports Park project is also very strong and demonstrates good initiative and team working skills. Your work on the match reports likewise demonstrates good initiative and a real drive to get involved with sports journalism at a high standard. Show Racism the Red Card is another strong piece of experience, which has helped add to the strength of your projects.”
